More About Aledo Texas
Aledo Texas is a small but rapidly growing city located in Parker County about 20 miles west of Fort Worth. The community traces its origins to the late 1870s when settlers established a farming settlement known as Parker’s Station along the Texas & Pacific Railway. In 1882 the town officially adopted the name Aledo—likely suggested by a railroad official from Aledo, Illinois—and that same year a post office was established, marking the community’s formal founding.
Geographically, Aledo sits in the rolling plains of North Texas in the Clear Fork Valley of the Trinity River, an area characterized by open ranchland and gently wooded hills. The city covers roughly 2.6 square miles and had a population of about 4,858 in the 2020 U.S. Census. Notable local landmarks include historic Front Street near the old railroad corridor and the highly regarded Aledo Independent School District campuses. The town is widely known across Texas for the powerhouse Aledo Bearcats high school football program, which has won numerous state championships—making Friday night games a major community event.
Visitors and residents enjoy exploring the small downtown area, attending local sports events, and taking advantage of parks and outdoor spaces that reflect the town’s rural heritage. A fun fact about Aledo is that it began as a railroad water and coal stop for westbound trains, and the railroad tracks that shaped its early development still run through the city today.
